Biography
Mr. Baker currently manages a division of about 300 staff engaged in many aspects of energy research including energy efficiency, renewable energy, clean fossil energy, and the electric grid. This includes technology development in biomass and hydrocarbon conversion, materials development for vehicles, fuel cells, energy storage, and diagnostic and control technology, and analysis that guides technology development and commercialization. During his career he helped build and test three engineering-scale gasifiers for biomass and coal. He also worked on separations technology for waste treatment. Mr. Baker is a Battelle Distinguished inventor with 17 patents during his career. He also has received 2 R&D 100 awards, 1 FLC award for technology transfer, and has over 20 peer-reviewed publications. He has managed projects for a diverse set of clients including, DOE-EERE, DOE-FE, DOE-EM, DOE-OS, US Army, DuPont, and Anheuser-Busch.
